The Day You Discover That Tomorrow Never Came
One day will be your last day on earth, and on that day you will discover whether all the tomorrows you kept promising God ever came. You say you will repent tomorrow. You will obey tomorrow. You will leave that wrong friendship tomorrow. You will speak to that person about Jesus tomorrow. You will stop that secret sin tomorrow. You will become serious with God tomorrow. Be careful. One day, you will say “tomorrow” for the last time, but tomorrow will never come. And on that day, you will see the reality of realities. You cannot continue postponing God and expect time to wait for you. Every time God deals with your heart and you answer, “Later,” you are making a decision. Delayed obedience can become disobedience. You may think you are only waiting for a better time, but while you delay, your heart can become weaker, sin can become stronger, and the voice you once heard clearly can become easier to ignore. Hebrews 3:15 says, “To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.” Notice that God says today. Satan loves tomorrow. Tomorrow sounds harmless. Tomorrow makes you feel as though you have agreed to obey without actually obeying. Tomorrow allows you to remain exactly where you are. You may even use good things to hide your disobedience. God may be telling you to speak to someone about Jesus, but you decide to sit down and do something religious instead. You may pray when God is telling you to apologize. You may read your Bible when God is telling you to return something. You may attend another church meeting while refusing the instruction already burning in your conscience. Religious activity cannot replace obedience. And you must be careful who has access to your heart. The wrong friend can weaken convictions that took years to build. First Corinthians 15:33 warns, “Evil communications corrupt good manners.” Do not laugh at that warning. The person you spend your time with can slowly change what you consider normal. What once troubled your conscience may become entertainment. What you once called sin may become something you defend. What you once refused may become something you now practice. You may say, “But this person is my friend.” Your friendship will not stand before God for you. Your friend will not answer for your soul. Your business partner will not face your judgment. The person encouraging you to compromise today may not be beside you when your breathing stops. If a friendship continually pulls you away from Jesus, open your eyes. If you always become spiritually weaker after spending time with someone, open your eyes. If somebody constantly makes you laugh at what God calls serious, open your eyes. If someone encourages you to love money, sexual sin, drunkenness, dishonesty, pride, or worldly living, stop calling that influence harmless. Proverbs 13:20 says that the companion of fools shall be destroyed. There are relationships you cannot continue carrying if you want to remain spiritually alive. You may love the person, pray for the person, and desire their salvation, but you must never follow them away from God. And what about your spiritual armor? Ephesians 6 tells you to put on the whole armor of God. Not part of it. The whole armor. Truth matters. Righteousness matters. Faith matters. Salvation matters. The Word of God matters. Prayer matters. You are not walking through a harmless world. There is a spiritual battle around your soul. You cannot throw away righteousness during the week and expect church attendance on Sunday to protect you. You cannot live in lies and expect the belt of truth to remain strong. You cannot continually feed your mind with darkness and expect your faith to remain untouched. You cannot walk willingly into temptation and then blame God when you fall. Guard what God has given you. Guard your faith. Guard your conscience. Guard your purity. Guard your relationship with Jesus. Guard the truth in your heart. Do not hand your spiritual life to someone who does not fear God. There is also something God may be asking you to do for another person's soul. Someone around you may need to hear about Jesus. Someone may need a warning. Someone may need to hear that repentance is still possible. Yet fear, laziness, embarrassment, business, entertainment, and distraction keep telling you, “Do it later.” What if later never comes? What if the person dies? What if you die? What if that conversation you keep postponing was one of the reasons God placed you near that person? You do not need to become a preacher with a microphone before you can tell somebody about Christ. If God gives you an opportunity, speak. Tell them Jesus saves. Tell them repentance is real. Tell them eternity is real. Do not allow fear of someone's opinion to make you silent about something that concerns eternity. One day, your own final hour will come. Perhaps you will be lying on a bed. Perhaps your final day will look completely ordinary. You may have plans for the next morning. Your phone may still have unanswered messages. Your clothes for tomorrow may already be prepared. But if your time has come, your plans cannot command death to leave. Then tomorrow will mean nothing. You may remember every time God said, “Go,” and you stayed. Every time God said, “Stop,” and you continued. Every time God said, “Leave it,” and you held on. Every time God warned you about a person and you refused to listen. Every time conviction came and you answered, “Later.” On that day, you may desperately wish for one more opportunity to obey. Why wait for your deathbed before obedience becomes important? Why wait until your strength is leaving before you become serious about God? Why wait until eternity is in front of you before you finally understand that this life was preparation? James 4:14 says your life is a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. You do not own tomorrow. So stop living as though you have an endless supply of days. If God is speaking to you, obey Him now. If a friendship is destroying you, deal with it now. If you are living in sin, repent now. If there is someone you need to forgive, forgive now. If God has been telling you to warn someone, speak while you still have the opportunity. If your spiritual life has become weak, return to prayer, truth, righteousness, and the Word of God now. One day will be your last day on earth. Your friends will remain. Your phone will remain. Your business will remain. Your plans will remain. But you will enter eternity. And on that day, there will be no tomorrow. You will see the reality of realities. So keep your armor complete. Guard your soul. Choose your company carefully. Stop postponing God. Obey while you can still obey. If you know you are not right with God and you want to surrender your life to Jesus Christ, pray sincerely from your heart: “Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus Christ. I admit that I am a sinner and I cannot save myself. I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins and rose again. Lord Jesus, forgive me, wash me with Your blood, and have mercy on me. I repent of my sins and turn away from my old life. Come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Give me the strength to obey You, follow You, and live for You from this day forward. Write my name in the Book of Life and help me to remain faithful to You until the end. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
