The Two Words You Must Hear at the End
You are moving toward a day when every title will fall away and only the truth of your life will remain. Pastor, prophet, church member, businessman, leader, husband, wife, famous minister, unknown believer, rich, poor—none of those labels will be enough when you stand before God. The day every argument dies is coming. On that day, you will not be able to explain yourself into Heaven. You will not negotiate. You will not point at another person. You will not hide behind your church, your pastor, your denomination, your ministry, or your reputation. You will stand before God as one soul. Hebrews 9:27 says, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” That appointment is already ahead of you. You may forget it. You may become busy. You may build. You may travel. You may preach. You may make money. You may become known. But judgment does not disappear because life becomes crowded. One day your name will be called. That should make you ask a serious question now: if your life ended today, what would God say about the way you lived? Would He find faithfulness? Would He find obedience? Would He find secret sin? Would He find pride? Would He find bitterness? Would He find a life that looked holy in public but was different in private? Would He find someone who truly belonged to Christ? Jesus gave a picture of faithful service in Matthew 25:21: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” Those words should matter more to you than applause. People may praise you and God may not be pleased. People may misunderstand you and God may be pleased. You must decide whose approval matters most. The danger of ministry is that public success can make you feel spiritually safe. A pastor can lead thousands and still need to examine his heart. A church member can serve every week and still be hiding sin. A respected Christian can be admired by people and still be resisting God in private. That is why you cannot measure your soul by human recognition. First Samuel 16:7 says, “man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.” God sees everything people do not see. He sees your motives. He sees your hidden conversations. He sees what you watch. He sees what you think. He sees how you treat your spouse. He sees whether you forgive. He sees whether you obey Him when nobody knows. He sees whether your Christianity is real. That is why the greatest goal of your life should not be to become impressive. It should be to become faithful. You do not need the largest ministry. You do not need the biggest platform. You do not need everybody to know your name. You need to finish your life in a way that pleases God. Second Timothy 4:7 says, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” That is the kind of ending you should want. Finish your course. Keep the faith. Do not trade eternity for temporary pleasure. Do not lose your soul while trying to impress people. Do not become careless because you have been a Christian for many years. Do not assume that yesterday's obedience guarantees today's faithfulness. You must continue. Matthew 24:13 says, “But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.” The end matters. How you finish matters. Your last years matter. Your last decisions matter. Your private life matters. Your final condition before God matters. There will also come a moment when fear, excuses, and arguments become useless. You may say now, “I will repent later.” You may say, “God understands.” You may say, “Everybody is doing it.” You may say, “My pastor told me it is fine.” But when your last breath ends the debate, only truth will remain. That is why you must correct your life while you still have time. If you are living in sexual sin, repent. If you are dishonest, repent. If you are proud, repent. If you are bitter, forgive. If you have become prayerless, return. If you are serving God only for money or praise, correct your heart. If you are hiding something you know is wrong, bring it into the light. Do not wait until judgment to become serious about eternity. You should also stop comparing yourself with other Christians. God will not ask whether you were better than your neighbor. He will ask what you did with what He gave you. Luke 12:48 says, “For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required.” Your gifts bring responsibility. Your knowledge brings responsibility. Your opportunities bring responsibility. Your influence brings responsibility. If God has given you more light, you must not use it to become proud. You must use it to become more obedient. And if you are unknown, do not think your life is small. Heaven does not measure importance the way the world does. A quiet believer who obeys God faithfully may be more pleasing to Him than someone with a famous name. Faithfulness is not about size. It is about obedience. The moment eternity answers you, you will not care how many people applauded you. You will care whether God is pleased. So live for that day now. Let your decisions be shaped by that day. Let your marriage be shaped by that day. Let your ministry be shaped by that day. Let your money be shaped by that day. Let your private life be shaped by that day. Live so that when everything else is gone, you are ready to hear the words that matter. And if you do not yet belong to Jesus Christ, your first step is not to work harder. You need salvation. You cannot earn “Well done” by religious effort while remaining separated from Christ. You need forgiveness. You need a new heart. You need Jesus. Come to Him now while mercy is still open. Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus Christ. I admit that I am a sinner and I cannot save myself. I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins and rose again. Lord Jesus, forgive me, wash me with Your blood, and have mercy on me. I repent of my sins and turn away from my old life. Come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Give me the strength to obey You, follow You, and live for You from this day forward. Write my name in the Book of Life and help me to remain faithful to You until the end. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. AMEN
