You Knew the Truth, But You Changed It to Please People
One day you will stand before God with every truth you knew and every truth you refused to obey. On that day, you will not be able to say, “People wanted to hear something softer.” You will not be able to say, “I was trying to keep the church full.” You will not be able to say, “I needed the money.” You will not be able to say, “Times had changed.” Truth will stand, and every excuse will fall. If God gave you His Word, you do not have permission to rewrite it. You may think you are helping people by removing the parts that make them uncomfortable, but if you remove repentance, judgment, holiness, Hell, obedience, and the return of Christ, what exactly are you preparing people for? A preacher who changes truth to please people may gain applause on earth and still answer for souls in eternity. Second Timothy 4:3 says that a time will come when people will not endure sound doctrine, but will gather teachers who tell them what they want to hear. That time should frighten you if your message changes depending on who is sitting in front of you. If the rich man gives more, do you preach differently to him? If the powerful person is sitting in the front row, do you avoid certain sins? If the congregation dislikes Hell, do you stop preaching it? If people want blessing without repentance, do you give them exactly what they want? Then ask yourself who you are serving. God or people? Galatians 1:10 says that if you seek to please men, you cannot be the servant of Christ. That is serious. You may think your greatest responsibility is to keep people happy. It is not. Your responsibility is to tell the truth. If sin kills, say it. If Hell is real, warn them. If Jesus is coming again, say it. If repentance is necessary, preach it. If greed is destroying people, expose it. If sexual sin is destroying lives, speak. If hatred, pride, racism, lying, and corruption are wrong, do not hide them because they are uncomfortable subjects. Silence can become participation. If you know someone is walking toward destruction and you refuse to warn them because you want their approval, what kind of love is that? A doctor who knows a patient has a deadly disease and says nothing because he does not want to upset him is not loving him. A preacher who sees spiritual danger and keeps smiling because the offering is good is doing the same thing. And be careful with money. Money has changed many voices. People who once preached with fire became quiet when wealth came close. People who once warned against sin became gentle with those who could support them. People who once spoke truth began protecting donors, powerful members, and influential friends. What will money do for you when your last day comes? Will it stand before God and defend you? Will it erase every message you watered down? Will it restore every soul you confused? Will it give you another chance? No. One day the microphone will be silent. The church building will remain behind. The money will remain behind. The followers will remain behind. And you will stand before God with the truth you knew. James 3:1 warns that teachers will receive stricter judgment. If you teach others, that should make you tremble. Your words influence souls. Your message can point people toward Christ or give them false peace while they continue in sin. Do not make your own rules about Heaven. Do not make your own rules about Hell. Do not make your own rules about sin. Do not make your own rules about salvation. God has already spoken. And if you twist His Word because the truth costs you popularity, you are not helping people. You are preparing them to be shocked later. There is also no place for hatred in the heart of someone claiming to represent Christ. If you treat people differently because of race, skin color, nationality, tribe, background, or social class, repent. You cannot preach the love of Christ while carrying hatred in your heart. God does not need your prejudice. He needs your obedience. And if you have already compromised, do not hide behind your past ministry. Repent now. Return now. Correct what you can now. Tell the truth now. Do not wait until your final breath to become bold. Do not wait until your body is weak to finally say what you should have preached when you were strong. Do not wait until there is no audience left to suddenly become faithful. One day every person you tried to please will be gone from your sight, and only God's judgment will matter. That is the day every false message will become unbearable to remember. So preach as though souls are listening. Live as though God sees you. Handle money as though you will answer for every coin. Treat people as though they carry eternal value. Speak the truth even when it costs you. Do not trade eternal approval for temporary applause. If you know you are not right with God and you want to surrender your life to Jesus Christ, pray sincerely from your heart: “Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus Christ. I admit that I am a sinner and I cannot save myself. I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins and rose again. Lord Jesus, forgive me, wash me with Your blood, and have mercy on me. I repent of my sins and turn away from my old life. Come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Give me the strength to obey You, follow You, and live for You from this day forward. Write my name in the Book of Life and help me to remain faithful to You until the end. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
